《我很需要一個擁抱》是一本相當可愛的繪本，從封面就可以完全感受到，我們的故事主角──甲蟲鮑伯，真的是非常渴望一個溫暖的擁抱呢！但孤單無蟲友的牠，始終難以實現這個願望，總是只能眼巴巴地望著其他人沉浸在友誼中的情景。
因此鮑伯決定主動出擊，終結孤單的蟲生！
在尋求友誼的旅程中，甲蟲鮑伯看到一個贏得勝利的隊伍成員間彼此擁抱的畫面，便想盡辦法參加各項競賽活動，希望能仿效這個模式，來得到友誼與擁抱。但是，沒想到牠卻一再搞砸，反而惹得大家都討厭牠，這令牠更加的沮喪……
然而，友誼的契機卻在意想不到的時刻降臨，當牠在不經意間，不假思索地對一隻需要幫助的螞蟻伸出援手時，一份真摯的友誼就這樣開始了！
如同本書的副標所敘述的，當孩子有「獲得友誼」的需求卻遭遇挫折時，應該引導孩子思考的是「建立友誼的智慧」，即讓孩子明白所謂「建立友誼」其背後的關鍵要素及意義。

出生於英國貝德福德郡。他從小就喜歡自己創作故事。在進入出版界之前，他在西薩塞克斯郡的藝術學院接受平面設計師培訓。他為各個年齡段的孩子寫了一百多本書，從原創故事到經典小說改編都有。
